Be a Water-Leak Detective!
Did you know that 20% of all the toilets in American homes are leaking right now ?  In one year, a leaky toilet can waste over 22,000 gallons of water.  All of that water is enough to take three baths every day!
I have a fun experiment for you to help stop leaky toilets!  You need the help of a parent with this experiment, so ask them if they will help you out before you get started.

Here are the steps:

1.  With the help of a parent, take the top of the toilet off of the toilet tank in your home.
2.  Then put about 12 drops of red or blue food coloring in the tank.
3.  Wait about 15 minutes.  It is very important that nobody uses the toilet while you are doing your experiment.
4.  After the 15 minutes are up, look into the toilet.  If the water is colored blue or red, you've found a leak in your toilet.
5.  If you find any coloring in your toilet, call a plumber or get your mom/dad to fix it.  You could be wasting thousands of gallons of water!

Good luck water-leak detectives!
